Get Oil Out! is celebrating its 45th Anniversary with a fundraising art show at the Faulkner Gallery, August 1-30th, 2014. Following in our historical path as a grass roots environmental organization, the show will honor using "Art for Activism.” Over 20 artists will display a variety of mediums and prices. Members of the Oak Group, SCAPE, Abstract Art Collective, and individuals like Mavis Muller and Bud Bottoms, and many up and coming artists will grace the walls of the Santa Barbara Public Library gallery. The show will help raise needed money and consciousness to help carry the work of GOO! to protect the Santa Barbara Channel and Coastline for many more years to come.
An artist reception will be help August 6th 6-8pm, including a panel of artists and activists to discus the power of using art to protect the environment. There will also be an opening as part of the First Thursday Art Walk on August 7th. To purchase art, call curator Hannah Eckberg at 805-226-7003 or email HannahEckberg@gmail.com
"Art is a way to reach people in a way that statistics or hard science just can't match. It can touch to the heart cords and inspire a deeper connection to nature that will hopefully then lead people to take action on its behalf," says Hannah Eckberg, past president of Get Oil Out! and curator of the art show. "Art can make us want to protect beautiful areas, or see things in a whole new light."
